¿Recuerdan el miércoles 27 de octubre de 2010? El día en que el país amaneció de luto por la muerte de Néstor Kirchner; el día que se había programado el segundo censo del siglo XXI en Argentina. Buenos Aires lejos del Centro estaba desierta, mientras la multitud de agrupaba frente a la Casa de Gobierno para rendirle homenaje. Había sido decretado feriado para facilitar la labor de los que recorrerían la ciudad para censar, pero todos lo sentimos como un feriado de silencio por el ex presidente. Buenos Aires tiene una fuerza muy especial en los días en los que su población acude masivamente a una manifestación.
¿Pero qué pasó con el censo? ¿Qué datos arrojó esta labor medio anacrónica pero necesaria, de ir casa por casa contando cuántos es que vivimos en el pueblo?
Yo siempre pregunto cuántos habitantes tiene el lugar al que voy para darme una idea. Aquí van algunas cifras para que recordemos en qué ciudad vivimos y cuán dominante es frente al resto del país. Como leí ayer en el diario: "...si nos atenemos a los datos del censo 2010: un tercio de los habitantes vive en capital y GBA..."
Según el censo, Argentina hoy cuenta con una población de 40.091.359 habitantes -cifra que en 2001 rondaba los 36 millones-, de los cuales 15.594.428 viven en la provincia de Buenos Aires y 2.891.082 en Capital. En cuanto a la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (CABA) hay en la página del censo dos mapas que dan una idea de la situación actual del territorio porteño.

¿Qué nos dicen los mapas?
Por un lado que los barrios más poblados de Buenos Aires son Núñez, Belgrano, Colegiales y Palermo, ubicados en el nororiente porteño. Por otro que la mayor cantidad de habitantes por kM2 se encuentra en barrios geográficamente más céntricos como Caballito, Almagro, Boedo, San Cristóbal, Balvanera y Recoleta, y que -curiosamente- mayor densidad coincide con poca población total. ¿Y eso qué? Bueno, en mi caso era simple curiosidad, quizás a alguno le sirva para algo más útil.
